Celebrating 20 YEARS of Making Cards!
This month it will have been 20 years since I sold my very first greetings card!
Hello there!
This month it will have been 20 years since I sold my very first greetings card!
My card collection has developed quite a lot since I made the very first 6 designs. These initial cards were printed from my my own printer and cut out with scissors in my living room...all the way back in 2004.
Back in 2004, I started my card range as a way to generate a little bit of income while I worked on my first picture books for children. I also really enjoyed making them. I found the folding and cutting therapeutic and it was fun coming up with new ideas for designs. My very first card stockist was a lovely framing shop in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh and I'm very happy to say that they still stock them today.
Cards are such a special way to communicate and I love the idea of them travelling all over the world carrying messages between friends and families. I now have over 100 designs, including an occasions collection. While I no longer print and cut them myself (my old Canon printer eventually gave up!) - I still get so much pleasure coming up with new ideas and creating new artworks for my designs and my card business is ever growing with wholesale stockists now all over the world.Â
Below are a few of my favourite cards from the early years...
ABOVE: 'The Banoffee Bird', 'Soren' the dog and 'Mavis' the pig were three of the characters featured on my first six designs back in 2004.
ABOVE: 'Fred' the spaniel, 'Felicity and Jeremy' the blue tit and the hare and 'Dunlop and Baird' featured in later collections around 2009. The hares were large scale screen prints that I made and then scaled down to turn in to cards. The six above designs are now part of my card archive - but it is lovely to look back at them.

Catherine, I just clicked through and had a look at your cards and I just have to say that your artwork is absolutely wonderful. Your characters are so full of charm and delight. It was a real pleasure looking through! I can imagine that your children's books are just as wonderful.
Catherine, new subscriber here. I make watercolor cards myself. But I'm curious about your journey into making those 6 cards and then having wholesales stocks! Thankssss
