Working on dog commissions...

A handful of favourites from 2024 (and celebrity dog news!)

One of the highlights of reading emails each morning is when I have been sent photos of dogs! I am lucky enough that people all over the world ask me to draw their four legged besties for them. This means I need to see lots of photos! I’ve spoken before about how the variety of dogs physical features fascinates me, perhaps it’s because I have to break down their features in order to draw them and capture their personalities - or perhaps it is because I simply LOVE dogs!

I thought it would be nice to look at a handful of commissions from last year so that you can enjoy looking at these lovely animals as much as I did…

Each of these three dogs had expressions that warmed my heart and made me laugh!

I worked on these four aat a similar time and they perfectly illustrate just how very different each breed is to draw!

Curls and spots - great fun to draw, you need a good pencil sharpener to keep the lines nice and lively!

Sometimes I'm asked to draw a family of dogs! My usual portraits are 17 x 17 cm but the more dogs - the bigger the paper!

As well as head portraits - if I have access to good full body photo's I love drawing dogs sitting down.

Celebrity commissions…

One particular commission last year stood out because it was for THE Jennifer Aniston! I KNOW!!! It was commissioned for her birthday by her best friend (also, incidentally, her hairdresser!). I loved working on this and Jen loved it (she cried - I was delighted!). Two of the dogs in the picture have sadly passed away, but we thought it would be lovely to draw all four dogs of her together in one piece. I’m sure you will all agree - they are absolutely gorgeous dogs!

I don’t just draw dogs…

I love ALL animals so before I go - here are two interesting commissions I worked on of slightly more unusual, but equally wonderful subjects!

A lovely pony and a mammoth called Mark were two of the more unusual commissions last year!
